Project & Construction Management
Fortaleza Governor's Mansion
San Juan Puerto Rico
UNESCO World Heritage Site, US National Historic Landmark
Specialized Construction Management Services were provided to the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and the P.R. Infrastructure Administration (AFI) for the Governor’s Mansion Complex restoration and adaptive remodeling, listed by UNESCO (1983) as a World Heritage Site. The Governor’s Mansion complex consists of 5 historical structures dating from the 16th (1533) to the 19th Century. The construction management services involved coordinating 5 buildings remodeling and restorations within the complex as follows: Governor’s mansion (“La Fortaleza”), Pabellones de Fortaleza, Comandancia de La Fortaleza, Real Audiencia Territorial and the Palacio Rojo. The construction management services included phased coordination with government agencies (for permitting and endorsements), architects, preservationists, archeologists, 6 restoration/remodeling contractors and inserting in crucial moments of the projects the best artisans in the building preservation trades. The result of the efforts achieved a timely and cost-effective execution of the work as per planned expectations. Projects costs totaled around $15M in 3 years of construction.
